DRESS FOR SUCCESS

Importance of Appearance

How much thought do you put into your appearance when you're heading to a professional setting? Have you realized that your appearance is connected to your attitude and confidence, impacting your overall success? Research has shown that ”clothing 'systematically influences wearers’ psychological processes. This simply means that you will act smarter and more professionally if you feel like you are dressed more professionally and smarter.

Matthew Randall, executive director of the Center for Professional Excellence at York College of Pennsylvania shared with The Reading Eagle, "How an individual dresses for work can be a powerful extension of his personal brand. Clothes, accessories and even the footwear an employee chooses to wear help to reinforce or diminish his skills and qualities in the eyes of his employer, co-workers and clients."

It may seem like caring about your appearance is mostly just so other people will take you seriously. However, it also benefits you! Your appearance affects your attitude and gives you a boost of self-confidence. Your self-perception also impacts how others perceive you. When we feel good about your outward appearance, you are more likely to feel good inwardly. This gives you a better attitude and a greater self-confidence and you're likely to be more productive, leading to an overall high performance.
