Freedom is NOT Free
Veteran’s Day is a day taken out of each year to focus on the true sacrifices individuals have made for our country. The University of North Carolina at Charlotte Chapter of Network of enlightened Women paired up with the College Republicans on campus to raise awareness for a particular non-profit organization, The Independence Fund.
The Independence Fund is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina whose mission is to empower severely wounded veterans and their caregivers by providing resources and tools to assist them with their physical, mental, and emotional wounds. They work tirelessly to ensure veterans are able to regain their independence through their Mobility Program. This specific program provides all-terrain mobility devices to ensure that veterans can continue their daily routines. Not only does this organization support our nation’s wounded veterans, but also the caregivers it affects. The “heroes behind the heroes” are also offered emotional and physical support that they need in order to better assist their loved ones. Over the past few years, The Independence Fund has assisted over 2,600 veterans and caregivers while giving a total of 1,751 mobility vehicles.
On Thursday, November 9th, members of College Republicans and Network of enlightened Women supported The Independence Fund in order to raise awareness on campus. Through this tabling event, our members had the opportunity to discuss challenges that arise for veterans and the importance of supporting those sacrificial individuals who courageously fought for our freedom. Freedom is not free.
