Emily Aertker is a junior at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, majoring in Communication Studies with Public Relations and Organizational Communication Concentrations. This is her first year being a NeW member! How did you first hear about NeW?  "I first heard about NeW at a College Republicans meeting in the fall of 2018." What made you want to become involved in NeW?  "Coming to a liberal campus, it can be difficult connecting with like-minded people. In the midst of an emerging fourth wave of feminism, it is paramount to see how far we have come and recognized how far societal pressures have shifted the views of modern feminists. It is crucial to have a cornerstone in traditional feminist ideologies, and I was very excited to discover other women who shared my similar passions." How did you first hear about NeW? "I first heard about NeW through Jessica Martinez, who is a really great friend of mine. She encouraged me to go to the National Conference." What made you want to become involved in NeW? "What made me want to be involved in NeW was after going to the National Conference in DC in June 2018. Through meeting several conservative women, I have wanted to become more involved with networking and learning more about NeW’s message. Emily Jashinsky , commentary writer from The Washington Examiner encourages college students to further enhance their knowledge and value by taking a simple action: reading books. Jaskinsky said, “…books shape the way you see the world in a really important fashion and you don’t realize it unless you’re reading books.” She took the time to address this as the specific way young college women can become valuable contributors in their professional careers. Jaskinsky made the remarks at the Network of enlightened Women’s (N.e.W.) 2018 Dessert Party, a time for college students to eat sweet treats, network and hear advice from professionals. N.e.W. holds this special event annually in February in Oxen Hill, Maryland as many NeW members are in the area for the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) . Cons
