Veteran’s Day is a day taken out of each year to focus on the true sacrifices individuals have made for our country. The University of North Carolina at Charlotte Chapter of Network of enlightened Women paired up with the College Republicans on campus to raise awareness for a particular non-profit organization, The Independence Fund. The Independence Fund is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina whose mission is to empower severely wounded veterans and their caregivers by providing resources and tools to assist them with their physical, mental, and emotional wounds. They work tirelessly to ensure veterans are able to regain their independence through their Mobility Program. This specific program provides all-terrain mobility devices to ensure that veterans can continue their daily routines. On a cold Tuesday night, four members of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte Chapter of Network of enlightened Women bundled up and headed out to volunteer. President, Jessica Martinez is a Representative for the Not In My City Project in Charlotte, North Carolina and introduced the two organizations. The Not In My City Project is a local initiative to mobilize college students by training them to raise awareness within their own spheres of influence and enabling them to provide funds for direct service for survivors. To raise funds for human sex trafficking survivors, the organization designs, makes, and sells apparel . Who doesn’t love a good T-shirt? In order to get their name and cause out, they often speak with organizations on college campuses in the area - including NeW. Fall typically means pumpkins everywhere, comfortable oversized sweaters, and cooler weather - usually everywhere but the South. The UNC Charlotte Chapter of Network of enlightened Women packed in a car, drove to the nearest pumpkin patch, and enjoyed some time getting to know each other a little better. Hodges Family Farm is a local, family owned farm that has been serving the Mecklenburg community for over one hundred years. Focusing on family, they cater to people of all ages with a shop on the property, activities, and events. During the fall season, their pumpkin patch is open as well as their animal farm. With hay rides, hay bails, and perfect picture taking spots, it is definitely an attraction for most UNC Charlotte students. Recently, the UNC Charlotte Chapter of Network of Enlightened Women looked into the often looked over topic of women’s safety on colleges campuses. A shocking 23% of females on university campuses across the United States are victims of sexual assault each year. At the last general body meeting, an article written by Fox News was examined and discussed.   Studying a story published in August of 2014, the women of NeW thought it was important to address the issue. A 20-year old female from Dartmouth University, Taylor Woolrich, had a male stalker since high school. After several incidents and scares, Taylor asked the campus if she could carry her gun on campus. The Ivy League University refused to let her carry her handgun on the campus even though she had her Concealed to Carry License. After learning more, Network of Enlightened Women paired up with the women of the Delta Zeta Sorority to spread awareness of the threat against women on college campuses. Promoting self defense

On a hot summer’s night, Executive Board officers, Jessica Martinez, Hannah Whitlow, and Alexandra Duncan drove an hour south of the UNC Charlotte campus to volunteer at the MERWC’s 2017 Celebrate the Vote. Starting the night by (wo)manning the check in table, it progressed to speakers and tasteful finger food. The guest list consisted of members of MERWC members as well as local politicians - including Former Governor Pat McCrory. The Evening Women’s Club holds this annual event, Celebrate the Vote. It is used to promote candidates and elections coming up in the near future. UNC Charlotte is located in Mecklenburg County where many city council seats are opening up as well as the office for mayor. Majority of those who were running attended the event - social and promotional reasons. Former Governor, Pat McCrory attended the event with his most trusted right hand man. When you're in college, you live to find the perfect internship to fill your summers with. No matter what your major is or where your heart lies, there is definitely an internship for you! Hannah Whitlow is a sophomore at UNC Charlotte majoring in Political Science and minoring in Criminal Justice. With a strong love of politics, Network of enlightened Women gives Hannah just another way to get involved. She's currently treasurer of NeW and actively involved with UNCC's College Republicans . This summer, Hannah packed her backs and headed to Capitol Hill to work for Jeff Duncan , the representative of South Carolina’s third district. Mainly working the front desk, she had the privilege to answer the phone when constituents called  - especially during times of trial. The morning of the dreadful baseball practice shooting, Hannah was there along with Representative Duncan. Believe it or not, Duncan spoke to the shooter before he opened fire. Afterward, Hannah got

Looking forward to starting the 2017 Fall semester at UNC Charlotte , the Executive Board came together to discuss some of the reasons as to why they wanted to run for a position and get the ball rolling for their first *full* year on campus! Jessica Martinez, a junior double majoring in Communications and Political Science, is presiding this party. She stated that she is ecstatic to begin her journey as president of the NeW chapter!! Fall of 2017, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte's campus welcomed a new up and coming club to their roster! The Network of enlightened Women is a nationally expanding organization focusing on empowering young women on college campuses all across the country. In doing so, they are building confidence, appearance, and knowledge. The nationally recognized organization, Network of enlightened Women, branches off of traditional values and implementing them into today's society. While this organization focuses the majority of its time towards empowering women, it also has a large influence in politics. The UNC Charlotte NeW chapter is rapidly expanding and has big plans for the upcoming months! Through bi-weekly meetings and social events, this club is sure to make an impact on this campus!
