Meet the Gents

Since 2010, Network of enlightened Women has been hosting the Gentlemen’s Showcase each year. Put in place to recognize, honor, and reward college gentlemen, the contest is held during the month of February. Through online voting, young men across the country are selected by women of NeW to compete to win $1,000 for a charity of their choosing.

The UNC Charlotte Chapter of Network of enlightened Women are thrilled to nominate five fantastic, Conservative men for the year of 2018. A gentleman is defined as: “a chivalrous, courteous, or honorable man.” Each one of these men is an outstanding student and community activist.

From the town of Apex, North Carolina, Michael DeSantis is a sophomore double majoring in Political Science and International Business. Michael is brother of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity as well as an extremely active member of College Republicans. Familiar with working campaigns, he is currently working with a news outlet, Merion West. Michael’s charity of choice is the UNC Heart and Vascular Network in honor of his father who has received treatment there.

From the Charlotte suburb, Gastonia, North Carolina, Keith Maples is a junior double majoring in Political Science and Global Studies. Keith currently serves as the President of College Republicans. Keith’s charity of choice is The Independence Fund which is based out of Charlotte which aims to fully rehabilitate veterans after their return home.

Also from Gastonia, North Carolina, Conrad Pogorzelski is a senior double majoring in Political Science and  Economics. Conrad is a brother, and former president, of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity as well former President of College Republicans. Currently the Political Advisor for the Mark Harris Campaign for Congress, Conrad has a dedication for helping his community. His charity of choice is also Phi Delta Theta Fraternity’s philanthropy, LiveLikeLou.

From the small town of Evergreen, North Carolina, Cole Strickland is a junior majoring in Accounting. Cole is a founding brother and Recruiting Chair of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. With a love of America’s favorite pastime, Cole is third pitcher and manager of the UNC Charlotte Baseball Team. His charity of choice is the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in honor of his younger brother who was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes when he was two years old.

From Ellenboro, North Carolina, Garrett White is a senior majoring in Civil Engineering with a Geotechnical Engineering Concentration. Garrett is a member of College Republicans and the American Society of Civil Engineers. Quite fond of politics, Garrett is the State Chairman for the North Carolina Federation of College Republicans. He is also an active participant on the Credentials Committee for the College Republicans National Committee. Garrett’s charity of choice is Save a Child’s Heart which he learned about at a Conference recently. The organization provides resources to help save children’s lives in Israel and surrounding countries.
Each one of these young men stand out in their own specific ways. All admirable for their hard work, dedication, and involvement Michael, Keith, Conrad, Cole, and Garrett are truly gentlemen of today’s society.

The Network of enlightened Women is a nationally expanding organization focusing on empowering young women on college campuses all across the country. In doing so, they are building confidence, appearance, and knowledge. The nationally recognized organization, Network of enlightened Women, branches off of traditional values and implementing them into today's society. While this organization focuses the majority of its time towards empowering women, it also has a large influence in politics. The UNC Charlotte NeW chapter is rapidly expanding and has big plans for the upcoming months! Through bi-weekly meetings and social events, this club is sure to make an impact on this campus!

Learn S'more About Us

The start of a school year is always fun, exciting, and honestly a little intimidating. Each year, UNC Charlotte hosts a Fall Student Organizations Showcase after Freshman Convocation on the first Monday before classes start. It was a big day for the UNC Charlotte Chapter of Network of enlightened Women who is still semi-new to campus. Excited to start our *second* full year on campus, attending these events were critical to gain membership and a presence on campus! The day started out with tabling at the Showcase for NeW. The table was set up - pretty in pink - with flyers, social media handouts, and more literature about conferences. Raspberry lemonade was a great thank you to prospective members who jotted down their emails to keep up-to-date on NeW meetings and socials. After the Showcase, NeW held an interest meeting, “Learn S’more About Us!” in the Student Union on campus. January Membership Spotlight: Jasmine Alvarez

Jasmine Alvarez is a junior at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte majoring in Psychology. This is her first semester in Charlotte, but she is already quite active with NeW! How did you first hear about NeW? "I first heard about NeW through Jessica Martinez, who is a really great friend of mine. She encouraged me to go to the National Conference." What made you want to become involved in NeW? "What made me want to be involved in NeW was after going to the National Conference in DC in June 2018. Through meeting several conservative women, I have wanted to become more involved with networking and learning more about NeW’s message.
