Learn S'more About Us

The start of a school year is always fun, exciting, and honestly a little intimidating. Each year, UNC Charlotte hosts a Fall Student Organizations Showcase after Freshman Convocation on the first Monday before classes start. It was a big day for the UNC Charlotte Chapter of Network of enlightened Women who is still semi-new to campus. Excited to start our *second* full year on campus, attending these events were critical to gain membership and a presence on campus! The day started out with tabling at the Showcase for NeW. The table was set up - pretty in pink - with flyers, social media handouts, and more literature about conferences. Raspberry lemonade was a great thank you to prospective members who jotted down their emails to keep up-to-date on NeW meetings and socials. After the Showcase, NeW held an interest meeting, “Learn S’more About Us!” in the Student Union on campus. With four dozen s’mores cupcakes from Delish Cakery and sign up sheets ready, the doors open...

Encouraging Your Heart Workshop

While in two different organization realms - politics and Greek life - Network of enlightened Women paired with the Delta Zeta Sorority for another time to co-host a workshop entitled, “Encouraging Your Heart” led by Monica Tutt. The Network of enlightened women strives to empower, educate, and enlighten young women through a Conservative political lense. Delta Zeta promotes sisterhood, philanthropy, and academics. Organizations tend to get caught up in themselves and stress members out - we’ve all been there. By following a few tactics, members can get a clear understanding of their place and purpose within the group. Encouraging Your Heart focuses on seven essentials - setting clear standards, expecting the best, paying attention, personalizing recognition, telling a story, celebrating together, and setting an example. By creating a transparent atmosphere and setting SMART goals, all members can know exactly what is to be done and who is in charge of what. SMART goals consis...

First Annual Fall Fest

Fall typically means pumpkins everywhere, comfortable oversized sweaters, and cooler weather - usually everywhere but the South. The UNC Charlotte Chapter of Network of enlightened Women packed in a car, drove to the nearest pumpkin patch, and enjoyed some time getting to know each other a little better. Hodges Family Farm is a local, family owned farm that has been serving the Mecklenburg community for over one hundred years. Focusing on family, they cater to people of all ages with a shop on the property, activities, and events. During the fall season, their pumpkin patch is open as well as their animal farm. With hay rides, hay bails, and perfect picture taking spots, it is definitely an attraction for most UNC Charlotte students. Network of enlightened Women at UNC Charlotte is new to campus, making this their first official Fall Semester! Focusing on gaining members, the Executive Board is busy planning fun events for members to attend. These e...

Kickin' It with Delta Zeta

Image
Recently, the UNC Charlotte Chapter of Network of Enlightened Women looked into the often looked over topic of women’s safety on colleges campuses. A shocking 23% of females on university campuses across the United States are victims of sexual assault each year. At the last general body meeting, an article written by Fox News was examined and discussed.   Studying a story published in August of 2014, the women of NeW thought it was important to address the issue. A 20-year old female from Dartmouth University, Taylor Woolrich, had a male stalker since high school. After several incidents and scares, Taylor asked the campus if she could carry her gun on campus. The Ivy League University refused to let her carry her handgun on the campus even though she had her Concealed to Carry License. After learning more, Network of Enlightened Women paired up with the women of the Delta Zeta Sorority to spread awareness of the threat against women on college campuses. Promoting self def...
